Looks like Crytek is teasing a Crysis remaster

A new tease from Crytek has fans excited for an upcoming Crysis remaster.

The Crysis Twitter account, last active in 2016, yesterday emerged from hibernation to announce it was "receiving data".

This could mean all manner of things, but signs point specifically to a fresh version of the original Crysis, first released back in 2007.

Last month, a new trailer was released to showcase a decade of CryEngine - the game engine built by Crytek on which Crysis runs. After running through its greatest hits, the trailer concluded with footage of a familiar jungle, its foliage and lighting looking lush - and bang up to date.

A screenshot of this jungle setting - with a nanosuit-clad hand visible - can also be seen in the Crysis Twitter account's header:

It's been a long time since the Crysis - and in the meantime, it's been a bumpy few years for Crytek. The Frankfurt-based company has struggled with financial problems and layoffs. In 2018, controversial boss Cevat Yerli stood down.
Now, with a new set of consoles ready to show off its shiny CryEngine, a return for the graphical showcase that is Crysis seems well timed.
